This collection comprises photographs taken by Tomoko Yoneda when she visited Hungary and Estonia in 2004. It was originally a project for inclusion in the “In-between” series of photograph collections by EU- Japan Fest, and is now making a fresh start as a re-compiled large collection with 38 newly added works not previously made public.

Although Tomoko Yoneda’s works are grounded in the fundamental role of the photograph as a record, she not only photographs what is actually seen but also the memories and history there. Hungary blessed with an abundance of water, Estonia with its dense forests. After a long period of resistance, both countries gained independence and democratization with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Concealed in the innermost part of these tranquil landscape photographs is a tragic history.
