Inspired by Karel Martens' Tokyo Papers, Ari Marcopoulos arranged his pictures, thinking about what would distinguish inside and outside, public and private. An idea that had already become a prevalent thought during the covid pandemic. The color work, hidden on the inside pages, is primarily portraits of objects and people, while the black and white photos on the visible pages are recent work of mainly exterior pictures done in January and February of 2021.
Marcopoulos: "The first thing in my mind when I see my new photographs is envisioning them in the form of a book. Often, I even make pdfs of books that never see the light of day as a published work. It's a good way to see how images look together, I even think of the book as a form of a short film."
