Inspired by her childhood house in Morocco, Aassmaa Akhannouch has conceived this series around the exploration of memories. The photographer brings back to life the spirit of the place by replaying scenes in this home, like suspended moments, where remains the old broken-down television set, the telephone that would no longer ring, the dress long since forgotten, in the wardrobe…

Follows the long period of working on the different materials and printing techniques in her laboratory to transfer the negatives into cyanotypes later toned and enhanced with watercolours to underline specific details in the image. The photographer lets then come to the surface the passing of time as well as the vision of a timeless Morocco imbued with universal childhood memories.

Born in Meknes in 1973, Aassmaa Akhannouch lives and works between Casablanca and the Lot Valley, in Occitania, South West France. After an engineering degree in France and an MBA in the United States, she worked in marketing for fifteen years. In 2013, she studied at the Photo Academy of Casablanca to perfect her knowledge in photography. In 2016, she decided to devote herself entirely to photographic practice. From 2016 to 2018, she was accompanied in her research by the artist-photographer FLORE at the Atelier photographique de L’OEil de l’Esprit in Paris. Akhannouch won the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie in 2021. She was also selected, that same year, for the ManifestO photography festival in Toulouse. Aassmaa Akhannouch is represented in Morocco by Galerie 127.
