A wonderful collection of photographs Issei Suda shot in the late 70's, for a monthly series on the folk traditions of Japan that appeared in Nippon Camera from 1978 - 1979.

Suda traveled with the photography critic Masao Tanaka to 22 prefectures throughout Japan, capturing the various festivals and rites particular to the different areas. An indispensible collection by one of Japan's masters of candid portraiture.
