Hotshoe is pleased to pay tribute to the work of legendary British photographer Don McCullin, in a special SS16 issue. The 80 page portfolio section of this new look Hotshoe is dedicated entirely to seven bodies of McCullin's work in chronological order: London, Berlin, Cyprus, Londonderry, Vietnam, Beirut, and Landscape. Named as the Photo London Master of Photography 2016, McCullin met with Aaron Schuman at his home in Somerset to give an extended interview, which we lay out across eight pages.
Always open about his thoughts on conflict photography, McCullin's insights are frank and fascinating, not styled or contrived. Never giving the impression of irreverence for the magnitude of his experiences, he struggles with the ethics of capturing images of human misery and death.
We also pair Mishka Henner's startling series Feedlots, with a specially commissioned story from writer Adam Ganz, talk to Photo London founder Fariba Farshad and explore what it is to live with difficult images with art consultant Tristan Lund.
