Yasuhiro Ogawa's latest photobook, "Into the Silence," published by Blue Lotus Editions Hong Kong, captures the timeless beauty of Japan's northern region, following in the footsteps of Matsuo Bashō.

Bashō's 17th-century journey through the northern provinces, chronicled in "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" ("Oku no Hosomichi"), has long enchanted with its mystique. Ogawa embarked on a similar exploration of the Tōhoku region, opting for trains and ferries rather than traveling on foot. His photographs reveal the rugged landscape, including snow-covered mountains, misty forests, and glimpses of wild oceans. Amidst the beauty, Ogawa's images also portray the challenges, loneliness, and resilience of this remote region, bearing witness to economic decline and depopulation.

"Into the Silence" continues the legacy of Bashō, inspiring poets and travelers to discover the enduring allure of Japan's interior.
