Choi Yongjoon’s The Elements consists of a series of photographs that distinguish smaller-scale image fragments captured within a common framework – the interiors and exteriors of buildings, and the cityscape where these exist. The lines and angles of urban details and scenes that are often created by anonymous engineers and architects become the primary focus of this book. Using his camera, Yongjoon discovers and documents unidentified patterns formed by chance as the result of urban development, identifying grids and patterns amid the interwoven urban landscapes. The genuine beauty generated by these patterns of civilisation is a key part of this work.
