The popular Tokyo edition of the series has been revised for the first time in five years. Let's go and see what kind of old-style cafes we have today. This updated guide introduces 42 old-style cafes nestled in the alleys of ever-changing Tokyo. Fourteen new cafes have been added since the 2019 edition, and previously featured cafes have been re-interviewed and updated.

Writer and café photographer Yoko Kawaguchi beautifully captures the charm of these nostalgic spaces through both words and images. Beneath the roofs of these old-style cafes, the quiet passage of time remains—lingering like the reverberations of music—allowing visitors to sense a richness that goes beyond taste or aroma.

Many of these cafes are housed in structures over 50 years old, including former longhouses, public baths, and silkworm farms. Why not take a journey to trace the memories of these traditional homes, while savoring the aroma of coffee in a space that has found new life?
