Shikoku, an island off Japan’s center.
A 1200 year old journey over 1400 kilometers, connecting 88 sacred buddhist grounds. In Japan, it is know as Henro: the pilgrimage.
88 is also the number of earthly desires that can be eliminated through ascetic training.
Following in the footsteps of Kūkai, one by one, I visit a sacred ground for each of my desires,
and one by one my sins and my worries leave me.
The pain that occupies my heart, too, slowly fades.
In order to assure myself, in order to not forget, I take photographs.
We may understand life itself as a pilgrimage’s journey.
I am in the midst of this journey, and I am alive for each of its moments.
