Issue 9 of the Osaka-based street photography magazine “Vacuum” includes contributions by Mei Hirano, Yuko Hirano, Jumpei Seto, Takuya Suzuki, Ryosuke Koshino, Nagisa Goto, Hsuan Lang Lin, Jun Abe, Jade Chen, and Shogo Yamada. Like previous issues, “Vacuum” focuses entirely on photography and photography alone. Every available square inch of paper is used for photographs. With no restrictions or themes regarding the content, the participating photographers were free to follow their own impulses to explore the current possibilities of black-and-white photography. With its large list of contributors, the creative freedom and the necessary space to exhibit individual series, “Vacuum 09” again includes a variety of perspectives, styles, locations and worldviews and represents the current state of Japanese street photography.
