An award-winning photo collection of seasonally inspired sweets.

The traditional East Asian lunisolar calendar divides the year into seventy-two intervals called pentads, each given a poetic description such as “East wind melts the ice” or “Bush warblers start singing in the mountains.” The progress of these evocative “micro-seasons” through the year is portrayed here in confections by Chikara Mizukami, proprietor of Ikkoan in the Koishikawa district of Tokyo, whose creations richly encapsulate the refined sensibilities that have elevated Japanese wagashi sweets to an art form. This edition is the long-awaited general re-release of a previous limited volume that has since gone out of print.

Awarded third place in the Design category of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2017.
